The Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA) Drug Test Card uses a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay to detect Nortriptyline and other tricyclic antidepressants in human urine. Simply dip the absorbent end of the test card into the urine specimen for the recommended time, then place it on a clean, flat surface while the reaction develops. Results are typically available within 5 minutes.
This test provides a qualitative preliminary analytical result only. Any preliminary positive result should be confirmed using a laboratory confirmation method such as Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) or High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).

Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) are a class of prescription medications primarily used to treat depression and certain chronic pain disorders. They work by increasing the levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, helping improve mood and relieve pain. Although newer antidepressants are more commonly prescribed today, TCAs continue to be used for several medical conditions because of their proven effectiveness.
The Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA) Drug Test Card is designed to detect Nortriptyline and other tricyclic antidepressants in human urine at a 1,000 ng/mL screening cutoff, providing fast and reliable preliminary screening results for workplace, clinical, toxicology, and home drug testing programs.
Tricyclic antidepressants are prescribed for a variety of medical conditions under the supervision of a healthcare professional. In addition to treating depression, they are commonly used to:
Treat major depressive disorder
Manage chronic nerve pain (neuropathic pain)
Prevent migraine headaches
Treat certain anxiety disorders
Help manage fibromyalgia symptoms
Treat nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) in selected pediatric patients
Improve sleep in certain chronic pain conditions
Nortriptyline (Pamelor®)
Amitriptyline (Elavil®)
Imipramine (Tofranil®)
Clomipramine (Anafranil®)
Desipramine (Norpramin®)
Doxepin (Silenor®)
Because TCAs may cause significant side effects, they should only be taken as prescribed and under medical supervision
Unlike many drugs of abuse, tricyclic antidepressants are not commonly taken for recreational purposes. However, misuse may occur through taking larger doses than prescribed or using the medication without medical supervision. Because TCAs can affect the heart and central nervous system, overdose can be a serious medical emergency.
Potential risks of misuse or overdose include:
Excessive drowsiness
Confusion
Blurred vision
Dry mouth
Rapid heartbeat
Low blood pressure
Seizures
Cardiac arrhythmias
Coma in severe overdose cases
For these reasons, TCA screening is commonly performed in emergency departments, poison control investigations, toxicology laboratories, healthcare facilities, and forensic investigations.
Improved mood
Reduced depression symptoms
Pain relief

Pamelor® (Nortriptyline)
Elavil® (Amitriptyline)
Tofranil® (Imipramine)
Anafranil® (Clomipramine)
Norpramin® (Desipramine)
Silenor® (Doxepin)
Tricyclic antidepressants are typically detectable in urine for 2–7 days after use. Detection times may vary depending on the specific medication, dosage, frequency of use, metabolism, and overall health.
The Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA) Drug Test Card provides a fast, accurate, and convenient solution for detecting Nortriptyline and other tricyclic antidepressants in human urine. Featuring a 1,000 ng/mL screening cutoff, a simple dip-and-read procedure, and results available in approximately 5 minutes, it is ideal for workplace drug screening, healthcare facilities, emergency departments, toxicology laboratories, and home testing. Each test card is individually packaged for single-use convenience and delivers reliable preliminary screening results without requiring specialized laboratory equipment. As with all rapid immunoassay drug screening devices, any preliminary positive result should be confirmed using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) or High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) before clinical, legal, or employment decisions are made.
The Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA) Drug Test Card is a rapid, one-step urine drug screening test designed for the qualitative detection of Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) in human urine. Using a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay, the test detects Nortriptyline and other tricyclic antidepressants at a 1,000 ng/mL cutoff concentration, providing reliable preliminary screening results without requiring specialized laboratory equipment.
This easy-to-use single-panel drug test features a simple dip-and-read procedure and delivers accurate preliminary results in approximately 5 minutes. Two colored lines appear—one in the Control (C) region and one in the Test (T) region. Even a faint line in the Test (T) region should be interpreted as a negative result.
Only one colored line appears in the Control (C) region, while no line appears in the Test (T) region. This indicates that Nortriptyline or other tricyclic antidepressants may be present at or above the 1,000 ng/mL screening cutoff. Any preliminary positive result should be confirmed using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) or High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
If no colored line appears in the Control (C) region, the test is invalid, regardless of whether a Test line appears. Repeat the test using a new test card.
